The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, will host the first in a series of games between the United States and Mexico indoor soccer teams as the countries prepare for the 2017 World Minifootball World Cup to be played in Tunisia this August.
The two teams will take the field at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 11 at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario. Tickets for the event go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday (March 30) at the Citizens Business Bank Arena box office, online at Ticketmaster.com or by calling the Ontario Fury’s offices at 909-457-0252.
Fury President Bernie Lilavois will lead Team USA as the newly named General Manager as it prepares for the tournament in Tunisia, set for August 11-20. Lilavois is looking forward to the challenge of defending the WMF World Cup championship that the U.S. won in 2015 in the United States.
“I am looking forward to working with our Head Coach Phil Salvagio and building a club, that will be able to remain at the top of our sport in the world this summer,” Lilavois said. “We will be challenged having to not only go overseas, but step out of our familiar surroundings of the arena soccer style for this event. It will be important for us to have all our players able to adapt to different surroundings at the tournament this summer.”
Besides the game, there will be a player combine scheduled as part of the events leading up to the game. Players from the United States and Mexico will have the chance to work out in front of coaches from both teams, and have the chance to impress the team staffs with the chance to be added to the roster. Details will be announced in the next week.
“The success of our MASL International Challenge here in Ontario last year between the US and Mexico and US and Brazil have me excited for this game,” Lilavois said. “We had over 7,000 fans come out to see last year’s US-Mexico game, and we expect to top that this year.”
Tickets for the game start at only $10. Group and fundraising tickets will also be available for purchase through the Fury’s offices.
